Learn About the Creative: Ali Ritter
Passion... Love... Enthusiasm... Creativity.. Fiber Arts
Hi! I'm Ali, proprietress of The Golden Threads. When I rescued an Angora Goat 10 years ago, I brushed her every day and had no idea what to do with all the wool I was left with. At the time, I didn’t know anything about fiber or handspinning. After researching ways to use her hair, I bought two dog brushes and made a spindle from some cardboard, a pencil, a cup hook, and an eraser. In the process, I fell in love with all things fiber and fiber arts. In the following years, I adopted an Angora Rabbit, upgraded to a homemade wooden spindle, then to electric spinner and finally to a wheel. Now, I get sheep’s wool from local farms and clean and dye the fleece for artists to spin. I make locks, fibers, rolags, and batts for spinners. I also spin yarn by hand and make finished products such as scarves, woven coasters, and one-of-a-kind items just for you!
The journey has had its share of challenges. Since starting The Golden Threads, I have left an unhealthy relationship and invested a lot of my energy into a traditional career. In the process of redesigning my life, I didn’t always get to work with fiber as much as I would like. Now, I have the economic stability I’ve always wanted, and I’m getting married to a man who treats me with respect, kindness, and love. I am excited to focus more energy on bringing you the best fibers for your work.
99% of my wool is sourced from small farms. I search for hidden gems throughout the world and turn them into materials for your next project. I especially love visiting small farms during shearing time. I love creating different colorways and blending fibers to offer to other artists. My products are perfect for spinning, felting, dyeing, weaving, knitting, and crocheting. The Golden Threads is committed to giving back, and frequently donates material to charities. Please send me a message with questions about any of my products or for inquiries about custom orders.
