My plan:
- Collect The Wedding Gowns/Prom Dresses/Fabrics
- Prep the Dresses for Weaving
- Create a Pattern for the Finished Fabric
- Sew My Wedding Dress
Here are the 3 dresses I have so far..with several more on their way to me from around the globe!
Up-cycling Wedding Dresses into Woven Fabrics to Design my own Unique Wedding Dress and more!
I have been doing alot of research on the steps that I should take to creating my own wedding dress. What vision do I have for my dress? How do I even know what I want in a dress? I read this article from Curvy Collective about some of the steps that a lady took to creating her own wedding dress. I have been a seamstress for many years but I have never sewn clothing! So, this adventure is pretty far outside my comfort zone.. but I absolutely love being creative!! My plan:
Here are the 3 dresses I have so far..with several more on their way to me from around the globe! A Kind Woman who Works at a Local Restaurant Donated this Gorgeous White Wedding Gown! The Second Gown in the Series is a Champagne Colored Wedding Gown with Multiple Stains on the Front and Stains around the bottom of the dress. This dress has a cute set of 3 rosettes that I plan to reuse in my design. I plan to reuse everything from these dresses that have been donated to this creative adventure. The 3rd dress is not a wedding gown but a prom dress! A mint green prom dress with Chocolate Stains on it. The color, Mint Green, will be perfect for an accent color in the woven piece. Matching our Woodlands/Forest Theme. Are you as excited as I am? More pictures will follow as the dresses come in. I have approximately 14 months to complete my wedding dress!

My sister and I are really excited about sending you our mom’s wedding dress. It has been hanging in my closet for many years, just waiting for the right home. Being over 70 years old, it is vintage plus!

The visionI have started on a Journey.. Collecting wedding dresses, brides maid dresses, prom dresses and other lacy items that have stains or rips etc to later up-cycle them by creating strips of fabric and weaving them into a new light weight fabric that I will then create my own wedding dress from the new fabric!.There has been a lot of interest in this journey so I created a blog for you to follow!
